Support the essential documentation

Living the War is an independent, non-profit documentary project founded in Kyiv after the beginning of a full-scale Russian invasion. We aim to document the human experience of this war to preserve the memories through the personal stories and photo documentation.

Disinformation and propaganda are part of the aggressor’s strategy. Our goal is to provide an international audience with straightforward and comprehensive materials to discover the truth about key topics related to the war: through the book series, photo exhibitions, an online journal, and a documentary film. We also support young photo documentarians through our scholarship program.

“The communicative memory of the experience lives on for three generations, and then only what is manifested, reflected upon, and recorded remains. Therefore, we have to save personal stories, collect photo documentation, and keep the timeline of the events. It is important to do it now. Share it with the world in all possible forms to promote the truth and advocate for justice.” — Oleksandra Matviichuk
Human right lawyer, Nobel Peace laureate about the documentary project.

“This superbly produced book is a living testament to the wartime experience of the Ukrainian people, now into the third year of defending their homeland. Newspaper, TV and online reports tell only so much, this book brings the human experience alive in the most powerful and memorable way. A brilliant achievement and hugely recommended.”
— Stephen Fry, british actor and writer about the third volume.

This war is so much about history and people’s minds. Join us in our efforts to tell the story of the resistance of people in Ukraine, help people around the world to understand what is happening, and not let the propaganda write the history.
